Can marijuana smell like cat urine? Had someone visiting who smelled like it.

    I've never smelled pot that smelled like cat urine. There's a strain of pot that smells like a skunk, though.

    Yes, it is ammonia and I have seen it happen with weed that was not harvested and or dryed properly. I am not sure exactly how the ammonia is produced, but it definately seems to have something to do with drying. Also, I think that in SF they is ammonia added to the water so if you are using tap water that might be the problem as well.

    I have definitely come across weed that has smelled like cat piss, i think the grower tried to dry it to fast and ruined his crop

    Here where I live there is a drought like no other, We have never seen it this bad EVER, I was told its because of the elections who knows, anyways the only thing that seems to be going around is this cat piss smelling stuff, We have never seen it before (or smelled it lol) but I told my boyfriend it smells like the liter box, I dont know what makes it smell like that Its not bad weed just stinks and sucks to smoke cause of the taste. I just want the shit that we never had a problem getting before to come back, and if the droughts due to the elections then I want them to be over ASAP. PS. Vote for Obama he likes to smoke pot and isn't afraid to admit that he inhaled

    ok everyone im going to help you all out here.....and you shouldnt smoke weed because its obviously messing with your brains.....first off...if weed smells like ammonia its because it got wet or cured improperly, and is now growing MOLD on it.....secondly "cat piss smell" is NOT the same as ammonia smell....if you live near an urban area you should know this.....that bud is called piff, which is just another name for amazing weed....theres a few diff kinds of piff....the stuff that smells like cat piss is hands down THE BEST bud...and if you have ever had the real bud that this person is talkin about you wouldn't question that....for me..there is only 1 real kind, its called poppy around here....and to be honest most of the time its laced with opium or heroin, which gives it a weird smell, and leaves a residue on the bag...very good kush has that smell sometimes too, but not as strong....i dont know exactly what strain it is, its a huge secret...if anyone knows i would love to know...but it is THE BEST stuff out there....anywhere.....now you know.
    Edit: Warning, be careful with this stuff, the cops are no fools, and they test it. And if its laced you get charged with possession of narcotics. I know a guy or two who have been charged with possession of narcotics, when the cops test the stuff, and it has dope in it. But more then likely your bud isn't laced, you would know it, plus it costs twice as much as good bud and usually only comes in small bags.

    oh yeah--I have had buds smell just like piss...and no there were no cats around. I think it is some form of ammonia in the weed....it smells sometimes like this when it is being cured--and if not cured long enough I have had some smell like cat piss. I do not use fertilizer so it was not from that either....just a natural thing but it is pretty nasty.

    Weed smells and tastes vary per strain of weed.

    The smells can vary from forest like smell to a oder that's close to cat pee.

    if it smells like cat pee, it can also be some thing inside your brain makes you wanna smell it like cat pee, this is perfectly normal, just check for molds and fungus (brown, grey like spots in the flower or stem).

    If you smell ammonia in your weed it's best to throw it away because molds and fungus are having a party on it, this is a bad curing/drying process.


    Being forsaken to live in Holland and have tasted and smelled a lot of different strains gave me the experience to see, smell and feel what fungus weed and what just weed is that smells like cat pee.. Some strains do some strains don't, if it does just check your crop. If it doesnt have any weird molds or browngreyish spots or fungus on it, it's perfectly normal and this crop just has a bad oder to you. Just smoke it then and have a wonderful high time.

    If it has a ammonia scent to it and looks like its a fungus crop, dont smoke it just throw it away and never look back at it. But cat urine smell, this can be normal to some strains really normal, Sour Diesel is one of em. And white widow sometimes can come close to cat pee but that's just your brain messing with you..

    Ammonia, not normal.

    Okay, firstly, amphetamines (yes, both the methyl-group-added variety and the old-school biker 'crank') will not smell like cat piss. During the manufacturing process, a gas is released with an extremely strong ammonia-like smell, but the final product is odorless and burns with a sweet smell.

    To explain the weed, it's a certain bacteria on the marijuana. As some users have speculated, it does indeed have to do with the drying and curing process. The grower was probably just in a hurry and didn't cure it correctly, therefore it is starting to mold and decompose. It's not sprayed, obviously, because ammonia is a gas. If the weed were "sprayed," then the ammonia would evaporate with the water. This is why Windex doesn't leave streaks, for the most part.

    If he has a cat, the cat probably peed on his pot smelling clothes.. some cats like to pee on clothes, if he is a lousy housekeeper, they are plentiful on the floor for the cat..(they don't have to smell like pot for the cat to do this)

    There is a Canadian strain called cat piss. It really just smells strong though, like cat piss does - but the bud itself doesn't actually smell like cat urine. The person probably just needed a bath maybe?

    Smokin some right now, this stuff dosent appear to be mouldy at all but had to be popped in Microwave for a min or 2 it was so moist, so moisture could be a contributing factor in the smell but I have been puffin for more than 20 years & this is the first time I've ever smelled this Ammonia smell not urine as musc as Ammonia. This shit is really strong but got ripped off because the fuker weighed it while it was wet. I could'nt help but think it was tinkered with or something, no opioid or narcotic effect though. Anyway it has'nt killed me yet,
