    I think so, yes =) It is great that you gave your friend a really nice gift, but im sure s/he would really appreciate birthday wishes from their friend most of all!

    (smack upside the head) if you think wishing him/her Happy Birthday again might offend, you'd better not do it. If you see him/her - then hell yes birthday wishes are in order. If you won't, get on the phone and wish your friend a happy birthday. Or text. Or email. Or E-card But no it's not necessary. Not essential. But it is interesting to see that courtesy has been replaced with "what's the absolute minimum personal effort I can get away with?" It's funny, only a few minutes ago I answered something about "are there any stupid questions?"

    You know it doesn't hurt at all. It just tells your friend how caring and thoughtful you are. You will not "overdo" by calling.
