Used cars and trucks

Question:

Is going to the DMV to register a car in your name the same as registering the car? I just bought a car in CA from a private seller and the registration is good until September 2009. Will I have to re-register the car when I put it in my name?

Yes. Even if the car's registration expired next year you would still need to register the vehicle, that just happened to me.

I'm thinking you must rgister the car with DMV immediately because your insurance will only cover a vehicle that is registered to you.

no, changing the car to your name would have to do with a title. To get tags legaly you need to regisdter the car, buy tags and have any state inspection done
