Some applications require silicone fluid. They can't be mixed.
In regards to specifically brake fluid, there are several generations, ranging from DOT1, and i think we are up to DOT4 now... Your master cylinders reservoir should say what kind of DOT brake fluid to use, if not, you have a pretty safe bet with DOT3.
The most popular type is DOT-3.

You're reading Is there a Specific kind of brake fluid that needs to be used? or is there all the same kind just better brands.Like oil has 5W 30.is there a different kind of brake fluid?
