  • You must be vigilant, especially in Caracas, and after dark, but isn't that so just about anywhere? Just be cautious, don't wander the city after dark. Take a taxi to a restaurant your hotel recommends for dinner...El Portal is great. Stay in the civilized areas and you'll be OK. Walk the city during the day. Check with Lonely Planet to see areas recommended to avoid.
