Because of the miracle.

Basically, they were indoctrinated as a child. When a child his born he is not a Christian, a Jew, a Muslim, a Buddhist or anything else. He is a child plain and simple. After his/her parents get done indoctrinating them, they are whatever their parents are. This can also be said of their parents. They were indoctrinated by their parents. And on into the past since the advent of thought. There were reasons our ancestors started believing in anything. Perhaps at first the sun, or the moon. Maybe fire. Anything that they did not know or could not understand. As time went on some of the humans discovered that a god or gods was an easy way to control other humans, and of course become wealthy.

People believe in gods because it makes them feel better about death, to explain what we can't, and to give their life meaning.

There are many forms of mental illness.

Many of those who believe , do so because science cannot sufficiently explain our origins.

Because we all need some safety and certainty in our lives. For many people religion provide that well enough to be worth hanging on to. regards JakobA
