I need copies of W-2 and 1099 for the years 2004 and 2005. I worked as a contractor for several companies which are not in business any more. How do I obtain these so I can file w/IRS?

You can call an Enrolled Agent (look in the yellow pages under taxes/consultations), give them a power of attorney for those years and they can access the IRS special website within about 5 days to get you the info you need. Beats sitting on hold listening to the irs elevator music for hours!

Great Q! You can contact the IRS and have them pull the tax records. Give them your SSN and full name. They can pull it up.
