They are sort of like corn cobs. They served a useful purpose in their day, but are not just a pain in the, well, you know!
For companies like General Motors, Kimberly Clark, Alcoa, etc, the Company Officials have to meet requirements of the union contract which are sometimes detrimental to their profit margin. Also they have to pay more for a union construction company most of the time, because of the commitment unions have with their members.

Unions served a useful purpose in the early days of industrialization. Now, they simply drive up the costs of goods & are exploiited by political/criminal enterprises.
