you don't have to believe in any gods to see evil. It's all around us.

One does not presuppose the other. God is God and evil is evil. You may not believe in God, but that does not diminish evil does it? No more than by believing in evil necessitates a belief in God, although believing in God is usually a result and acknowledgement of evil. Don't you think?

Believing in a god does not entail believing in evil. But what I think you meant to ask is, "Why does believing in the *Christian* God entail believing in the existence of evil?" And the answer to this question is that Christianity thrives on evil. It requires the embodiment of evil, Satan, to exist so that they can have someone/something to blame for all he bad stuff in the world, rather than taking personal responsibility for their own actions, or for coming to grips with the reality that even though they say "God is Love", he still sends unbelievers to burn for all eternity in hell.

Evil can be defined as the opposite or absence of good. Just believing in God does not necessarily mean believing in the existance of evil. But believing in God AND free will entails believing the ability to choose between good and bad (evil). In Judeo-Christian belief, moral evil results from humankind's free choice to sin. Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God. The seven Deadly Sins are: • Lust (inappropriate desire) • Gluttony (over-indulgence) • Greed (avarice) • Sloth (laziness) • Wrath (anger) • Envy (jealousy) • Pride (vanity) The opposing seven Holy Virtues are: • Chastity (purity) • Moderation (self-restraint) • Generosity (vigilance) • Zeal (enthusiasm) • Meekness (composure) • Charity (giving) • Humility (humbleness) With love in Christ.
