Yes. You can actually videotape anyone without their knowledge; the thing that makes it illegal is distributing it.

I know it shouldn’t be in the bathrooms, and I believe they should let you know you're being on video, or you have a very tacky employer.

Where I am, you only have to post a notice if you are AUDIO taping them. If it is just video, they do not have to, but they cannot put them in the bathrooms or dressing areas.

I'm not sure whether its legal or illegal but, I feel its not a good way to recording them without informing.

Only in the restrooms. Anywhere else is not allowed. But I could be mistaken. :)

No. no matter what excuse the company may have, they will still claim its for the security of the building and company. Hidden cameeras may be another story. Next time you are in a casino, look to the ceiling and observe the many, many security cameras in place. most are aimed at the employees.
