I think the world would be a better place if people stopped focusing on themselves so much and looked outward to others. Self-hatred is self-centered or selfish. So concerned with self that there is no time to think about others. Just my thoughts my friend! :)

I don't think power is nothing in the sense that liking yourself gives you the strength, or power to go out into the world and do good things for people. But I think your point is very perceptive in that one way poor self esteem manifests itself is through anger and hostility which unfortunately we do see here at times.

In a sense, perhaps. People who hold themselves in high esteem are more prone to being "successful." (Definition varies.) Successful people have a greater impact on the world, whether it be finding a cure for an obscure disease, or smiling to the social outcast in the supermarket just to let them know they aren't unnoticed. Power does matter to me. I know I have no power over anything else other than myself, but I do need that. It makes me a better person.

Sure more self esteem would help some and thinking less of themslves would help others and I can't really give you numbers of either extreme. Can't really comment on your seeing "a lot of vaguuely disguised 'self- hatered'...", except to say that you may be correct - what you perceive to be truth may be. I'm not at all sure what is meant by "when power is nothing". Some may argue that at the very least one needs at least the power or the means to provide and control their actions and to a certian extent their lifes to reach any where near contentmeant. +5 because they are meant to be given.
