It depends. Men and women can both end up with awful hairstyles that don't suit them. There are lots of women with short hair that rock the look - Winona Ryder and Sinead O'Connor come to mind.

I don't know what a number 5 is, but short hair is very attractive on many women. Some women have thin hair, which means that it would not look good if they grew it out.
