They are unhealthy for the person who has them. Sooner of later, they'll take over your life. They come in handy if you ever need to manipulate someone though. Like they say, knowledge is power!
-
I believe that to be obsessive about anything can be unhealthy and in the extreme dangerous.
-
Not always. Sometimes an obsession with something or someone may simply result from a strong desire for achievement.

A good example of a person with an obsession is a stalker. Stalkers are so focused on one person, they lose contact with reality. An obsession can be a killer.

If a habit or personal trait is defined by the dictionary as a obsessions as : excessive preoccupy or to think about something to point of being of having unwanted wants or desires - than I would say a resounding yes; they are bad. Than one could argue what is excessive and would what you would define so be the same as what I would. As often as not I would contend that you would not get most to agree on this point. Our language is much more subjective than many believe.

No, and if you have Asperger's Syndrome don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Some obsessions can be turned into lucrative career paths. Imagine being obsessed with aircraft design, computer programming, urban public transportation routing, or business management. For some people the extreme level of interest in a pinpoint topic can't be classified as a passion as it occupies their thinking every waking moment. The thing to remember is that it is typically not the obsession that is wrong (unless it involves the violation of the free will of another human being) but the behavior of the person obsessed. It is a struggle but everything in life needs to be balanced. Everything is good in moderation, even excess.
