  • Check the motherboard settings. The BIOS Settings. You can access them by pressing Function Key 2 . Please don't attempt to change any settings in the BIOS unless you know what your doing. It could get ugly. It will show you all your current hardware running on your computer's motherboard. It's rather interestihng.
  • just look at the back of the computer!! do you have either a digital audio phono output or an optical audio socket? if you do then yes, if not then no!
  • Ask the fatherboard?
  • One really simple way is to just check the manual. If you don't have it to hand they can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website.
  • Here are another few ways to check for surround 5.1 or 7.1 control panel>sounds and audio devices>advanced button>new screen opens and at bottom where it shows speaker setup click down arrow> you will see one or the other most of the time at least in XP I have never seen both choices if you click the hardware tab> you can also see what is install as far as devices> like if you have just onboard audio or sound card also you can click on each one, then click properties to learn more there is also a free program called belarc: http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html you can download for free to learn more about your system I fixed everybody's DR because I hate to see that no matter who was doing it, I hate when its done to me.
