  • Same old, same old, resahed, overdone, been there done argument...Any thing new since this last came up a couple of hours ago? Or are we still at the old junction of "I'm hollier than tou because abortion is murder but I support war" crap? Oh, yes, I almost forgot there's one little thing new: "The U.S. Food and Drug Administration must reconsider its decision under the Bush Administration to limit access to emergency contraception, a U.S. court ruled on Monday, saying the agency allowed politics to interfere with its usual decision-making." http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20090324/hl_nm/us_fda_planb He he...Are y'all self-righteous X-ians scared yet?
  • Well, Hopefully I won't be DR'd for expressing my opinion but here's what I think. First and foremost it's not a matter of being "okay", nobody "enjoys" getting abortions, but it's a matter (in my mind) of how much power are we gonna give government when it comes to decisions regarding our own bodies? I bet you there are a lot of people out there who are pro-choice who would never dream of getting an abortion themselves. It's a choice of the individual, not the state, not anybody else. Secondly, there are no alternatives. If we ban abortion, it would become part of the "black market" in a way. Back Alley abortions would take place all over, or girls would throw themselves down stairs, purposely get punched in the stomach etc. It's not really a matter of "convenience" like some pro-lifers make it seem. There are tons of reasons a girl might think it best to not have a child after she becomes pregnant. And not to sound like a "douche", but our overpopulation problem would be even worse if abortion were illegal. I'm not saying pro-lifers don't have some great points, they really do and I totally understand where they come from when they say abortion is wrong. I'm not religious, but I do think life is precious. But somethings just "are what they are" and abortion is one of the things we will all have to get used to.
  • its not right you had the baby on accident or purpose you should cherish it, its just another human like yourself.
  • who says that it is ok? Is poisoning yourself with alcohol or tobacco ok? Is letting your body fall from peak performance ok? aren't our bodies supposed to be sacred and healthy? Is masturbating and "wasting' semen that could be used to create life ok? Is letting people be homeless ok? Is war ok when you kill others just because your boss disagrees with their boss? Yes abortion is taking a life away. Many different species of animals are preyed upon and killed as part of the life cycle at birth or even before birth. Is that ok? How about forcing chickens to lay unfertilized eggs and eating them? ort raising animals just to eat and giving them zero quality of life? Or is it that some use abortion as birth control (which we all can agree is not ok)? All people have different beliefs and values and are allowed to make choices. many people make poor decisions and we generally focus on those. Overpopulation was mentioned. What if we limited abortions to certain people. Did you know that you can adopt a black baby tomorrow if you wanted to, but would have to wait many months to years to adopt a white baby. So why not allow black to have abortions but not whites because many couples who can not have children want to adopt. Did you know that it costs around 10-20 thousand dollars to adopt a white child? Is that ok? If we all agreed on what is right, the world would be at peace.
  • Abortions are heart wrenching decisions that affect people for the rest of their lives, I think it is a little flip to pass it off as 'ok'. But, I would say my main reasons for not being against abortion is the fact that I have seen what an unwanted pregnancy can do to people and, to ban abortion would be forcing women, or children, to carry an unwanted fetus for nine months. No one should have the right to tell you that you must do that.
  • women own their bodies and should have the right to go through abortion, no questions asked. It is nobody else business.
  • yes women own THEIR bodies but ahh do they own the little body of the human inside them? No , because we all have our opinion and free liberty ( It's what U.S is based on isn't it? ) So let the kid grow in another family and when it is big enough to decide for itself you ask him "Hun do you want to die in a horrible way? ( good luck with THAT one ) Babies are alive from the very beggining and abortion is murder . Have you watched clips of what the baby does right when they are about to kill it? It's HORRIBLE !!! If you watch that and still want to abort you have NO heart/soul!! * THIS HAS CERTAIN CONDITIONS ON IT'S RIGHT OR WRONG DEBATE : RIGHT If you were to die from giving birth for example , WRONG : Eveything else * SHEESH JUST GIVE THE BABY AWAY !!! WHY THE HELL DO YOU WANT TO KILL IT!? Would you like to be given the choice of life?!?!?!!!?!?!?
  • -Humans have a responsibility to decide what is best for themselves. -Although I do not deny a foetus is a human life, it is a life that has so far not been influenced by society, experienced human consciousness, made its own decisions, developed its own personality. So although it is human, it is not yet a person. So although it is regrettable, extinguishing its life at that early point is sometimes a necessary option. -An abortion can prevent much unnecessary human suffering, ie the mother not being able to care for the child, the child growing up in poverty or without proper care, contributing to an overpopulated family or area. In many cases the mother's very life depends on an abortion. -Most arguments against abortion are based on Christian ideas about the sanctity of human life and sanctity of "souls". These ideas are simply unscientific.
  • Its stories like these that make me in favor of abortion: http://www.stuff.co.nz/national/crime/2290599/Plane-birth-woman-charged I'd rather have abortion than dump a little baby in the rubbish bin.
  • My body My business, My choice notice how I keep saying My..
  • I'm a bit of an oddball on this one. I do think it is murder, but I'm also pro-choice. I think that the days when the choices were dumpster, toilet, neglect, etc. to get rid of a baby the babies died a much crueler and slower death then abortion offers. Not to mention the few terrified teens out there who actually ripped out their own uterus's with a coat hanger because they were scared and had no other options available. I think abortion is wrong, but I think it is a wrong our society needs.
  • Abortion is just not a decision you can let anyone else make for you. Certainly we cannot let others choose our religious beliefs for us, which is what this is. Whether abortion is considered murder or not is a religious matter; it involves personal morals and beliefs about life and death. Personally, I don't believe that life stops when you die, so for me abortion is not such a terrible thing. It does not destroy life because that isn't possible.
  • As a midwife I see the very heartbreaking decision that some women are faced with when their pregnancy goes very wrong and I will give you a few examples why a pregnancy is ended because of severe birth defects of the baby. One of these defects is called Trisomy 18, the mortality rate for this defect is high and not many of these children survive the first year of life, they have a small abnormally shaped head, mental retardation, heart defects and other organ malformations and when they are born they do suffer a lot because of this condition before they eventually die. Another birth defect is Tay-Sachs disease, the child becomes blind, deaf and unable to swallow, complete paralysis of the body sets in the child will have dementia and seizures, there is no treatment and the child usually dies by age four. Now imagine a woman who is faced with having a child with either of these birth defects, what does a mother who loves her child do, does she terminate the pregnancy because she loves her baby and does not want it to suffer before it eventually dies or does she decide to keep the baby because she loves it and dosen't want to be called a murderer knowing that there will be no cure for the child and then watch helplesly as the child who she loves die a slow and painful death. I think to call these women murderers is really wrong and no one could honestly say what they would honestly do if they were faced with such a decision, I have had such women in my job as a midwife and to see the turmoil that these women go through stays with you and you never forget such patients, so if I as the midwife find it difficult to cope with imagine what these women go through. I find it frustrating when others judge these women and for those who do I would love for them to see these women as I have seen them or to see one of these children that are born with such birth defects because it would change their life and perhaps they would not be as quick to judge. There are other reasons that I think a termination of pregnancy is ok such as rape, incest or when the womans life is in danger, however, I won't get into that I will leave it until another time :)
  • Have you heard of cruel and unusual punishment ...this would be cruel and unusual punishment for someone that hasent even comited a crime Here is something else if you are religous then you beleive that there is human life at the point of conception if you are not they you probalbly beleive that the Zygote and a little ball of cells is not a human being and cannot produce any thought or oppinions if something cannot even think that it doesnt whant to die or even know anything then why should it matter if someone shot you in your sleep you would never know the difference (unless you think that you are going to heaven) Look at plants and animals, and anything else that dies in order for us to survive should they be killed?
  • I dunno....for some reason I see no problem with it at all. I think abortion is about as common as a bowl of Cheerios. I don't really care one way or another. I mean am I killing possible children by squirting them into a piece of toilet paper time and time again? Maybe...but then again I'm a maverick.
  • To disrupt an natural process for our benefit
  • Ok i believe abortion is ok, depending on the situation. for instance if a young girl got raped and ended up pregnant i don't see why she doesn't have the right to abort. If the woman is concious of the consequences having sex has and she ends up pregnant then I don't believe she should have the right to abort. this is all just opinion but when you get down to it we are human and we all make mistakes, even women. If a woman senses having a child would be a mistake and she can't support it, or she's way too young and isn't ready for it then why not abort? I really don't think abortion is ok but bringing a child you won't love into this world just to suffer doesn't seem morally correct either. That woman that recently had eight kids, yea thats sad not ffor her but for the kids, they're gonna fight for love, struggle finacially and even grow up to have problems. Then again I'm not trying to debate here I'm simply expressing my personal opinion.
  • Abortion is okay because it solves a problem. why invite an unwanted child into the world?
  • * I'm not a religious nut and I don't belong to any pro-life group. * Abortion is morally indefensible because you can rationalise all day about women's rights to do with 'their bodies' what they like (THEIR bodies, yeah right! As if their bodies are being torn limb from limb.) and the foetus 'not being a person' but the fact of the matter is that it is only a matter of age that separates a foetus from a newborn infant. Are they as comfortable committing infanticide? Is it more a OK to kill a 1 year old than to kill a 10 year old? Is it OK for a man who loses his job to kill his family because he can't support them? This happens. * I find it a little absurd that a society that condones abortion has moral qualms about imposing the death penalty on clearly incorrigible murderers. This on the mere hypothetical possibility that they did not commit THIS murder. The same humanitarian standards are not being applied it seems. * Prevention is better than cure. Don't get pregnant in the first place. Abortion should not be used as birth control by irresponsible people. Birth control and sex education is freely available these days. * Sterilization is an option. Maybe governments should enforce it for people who have multiple abortions. * Adoption is an option. * Sometimes an abortion does seem the lesser of two evils. E.g. If severe abnormality of the foetus is detected, Incest. * These are just my opinions and I am not going to debate them.
