  • I rocked the last IQ test I took, so they can't possibly be that accurate. I am in fact dumb.
  • I consider common sense to be intelligence, and I'm fairly sure that it can't be measured. Although The Darwin Awards seem to be a pretty good indicator of those with a lack of common sense. :) If you've never read those, it's worth a trip to http://www.darwinawards.com/ Some of the stories make me feel downright brilliant!!
  • For starters, many IQ tests rely on the subject's linguistic comprehension abilities. As a result, dyslexics, the illiterate, and those taking a test written in a non-native language will ALWAYS get shafted even if they are actually quite intelligent. Second, many tests rely on a person's organizational abilities as well. That double-bones people with certain learning disabilities. My wife is quite smart but she lacks a "mental blackboard"; she can't really visualize things in her head very well. If she is driving and sees a vehicle in her rear-view mirror then takes her eyes off the mirror and back to the road, the vehicle behind her simply ceases to exist. She'll vaguely remember something is near her, but not what or where it is really. As a result her IQ tests won't reflect her actual ability to process information, only her inability to manipulate it inside her mind. Therefore, she is considered unintelligent even though she is quite knowledgeable and insightful. Therefore, it's safe to say that many IQ tests really don't measure much of anything in any reliable way. They are more a test of linguistic aptitude and visualization/imagination than of actual intelligence.
