VY Canis Majoris is the largest known star, with an estimated radius of between 1800 - 2100 solar radii. VV Cephei A, by comparison, has an estimated radius of 1600 - 1900 solar radii. SOURCE: CANIS MAJORIS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VY_Canis_Majoris VV Cephie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VV_Cephei LIST OF LARGEST KNOWN STARS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_largest_known_stars Here is a video (not showing Canis Majoris, but featuring Cephei A) to give you a perspective on the immense size of these stars:

although many believed that vy canis majoris topped vv cephei, the diameter of this star, however, put on the hot-seat of debate. According to Humphreys Model vy cma is about 1800-2100 solar radii, and is considered a HYPERGIANT star. But, this approximation was then confused with Massey-Levesque-Plez Model, where the star is believed to be just a normal supergiant star with a solar radii of 500-600.(so if you noticed in the wikipedia's list of largest known stars, there are two classifications of VY Canis Majoris' size according to assumptions). However, VY Canis Majoris is still widely accepted as the largest known in our galaxy.

"Mass 25-40 or 100 M☉ Radius 1600-1900 R☉" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VV_Cephei "Mass 150 M☉ Radius 300-340 R☉" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pistol_star "Mass 130-200 M☉ Radius 150 R☉ Luminosity 2-40 × 106(bolometric) L☉" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LBV_1806-20 So it depends uopn your definition of biggest: Biggest Volume Biggest Mass Biggest Luminocity But by volume it is VV Cephei

The largest one that astronomers have identified in our galaxy is "VY Canis Majoris" ... it is about 2,100 times the size of our own sun.

Big enough to create a meganova. Poor baby has to lash out because the truth has outed and it must implode upon itself. I wouldn't want to be 250 light years away from this activity, or else.
