  • There are jumpers on the back of each hard drive which select whether the drive is "master" or "slave" on the cable bus. One drive should be set to be the master, and the other drive should be the slave. There are usually little drawings of the jumpers printed on the drive itself which tell you what positions to place the jumpers in. Generally, the boot drive should be designated as the master. Chances are you have both drives set to be master now, which is a no-no.
