Death scares a lot of people, you're not alone. Probably you just don't know what to do our how to be when you're around him. So that's something that can be cured: all you have to do is be there, in the moment. Sit with him, ask if he needs anything, read to him if he likes. You don't need to do anything special, simple presence is enough to tell him that you care and that you appreciate his presence. When you do that with someone you love, of course they still die. But it's an opportunity to let their death be something that makes you more alive: more compassionate, more in touch with the absolute truth about life... that it's a miracle and a gift, each moment. We can't hang on to it, but we can live with that understanding and be richer for it.

It sounds like you know what you want and need to do. You stated it correctly that if you do not you will regret it. If you cannot go see him because of distance or financial or some other reason, perhaps a phone call or a note to let him know you are thinking of him. Let him know you care. Sorry to hear about your grandfather. Take care. ((hugs))

Please, pick up the phone and call him, arrange a night to have dinner, take over some photos and cherish every moment ;0)
