Absolutely! Since you can run coax cable long distances, you can have the dish mounted to just about anywhere that is a reasonable distance from your place. I see it all the time in my city. There are a lot of apartment buildings in Toronto for example that have many dishes on the roof and just have the cables running down the side of the building. (You'll need to check local bylaws about that though, it's illegal in some places.) You can also check out the different provider of satellite TV. My home faces south, but my dish is getting its signal from the West, and I have the dish attatched to the side of my house. So maybe you can find a provider that has a satellite in orbit to the west as well. The person across the street from me actually has it mounted on his fence!

Three different options you might consider. 1) Patience. Both DirecTV and Dish Network are trying to work out a solution for a northern based satellite set for customers like you. Meanwhile, a woman in Washington D.C. is trying to get approval to start a new service, called "Northpoint Satellite Services" which would solve your problem if approved. 2) Ground mount options. Some apartment buildings will allow you to mount a dish on the gound and route a cable to your unit. This doesn't happen often, and you will be liable for the dish. If you're not in a great neighborhood I wouldn't recommend it. 3) Make freinds with your neighbor who does have line-of-site. Then ask if you can run a cable through their space to yours. Take them out to dinner when you ask!
