Well to be fair he also said no to extra-marital sex. I do think it's incredibly stupid though, perhaps a if your going to "sin", "sin safely" message would be in order.

I disagree with the Pope, but people are going to do what they will. Before we focus too much on the sex practices of other nations we could sure use some sexual reform for our own. I can't tell you how many "Am I pregnant" idiotic questions I have read just on AB alone.

It is ridiculous to say that, he is causing opposition and isolation within the church. He encourages abstinence, which is wonderful, but it isnt realistic, he needs to deal with reality. Pope Benedict XVI said the Catholic Church can help bring answers to the continent's chronic problems, including poverty, AIDS and tribalism. HOW, telling them abstain from it, PLEASE. -

He is a Nazi. What do you expect? But, in fairness, you can't say it's genocide anymore than you can say HIV meds themselves are genocide. The "side-effects" of those meds will ultimately kill anyone who takes them, HIV+ or not.

What the pope said may be unrealistic, but it is actually correct. Just like condoms do not prevent pregnancy, they just slow it down, condoms do not prevent aids. You just have a better chance of not getting it. Of course it is unrealistic to think abstinence is going to work. People will be people. Condoms will help, but it is equally unrealistic to expect their use 100% of the time. A report I read in The Times many years ago about AIDS in Africa reported that despite the pandemic, Africans in general refused to use condoms, not for any religious reason, simply it feels better. If you're gong to call the Popes stance genocide, you'd better also think in terms of mass suicide.

No. You are taking what he said out of context. He said "Don't have sex until married. Be faithful. Don't use a condom." People who follow his directions have almost no chance of getting HIV.
