Plug it on to your computer and, right-click on your drive and select Format.
If it doesn't allow doing that, then make sure, that there are no programs installed by that external HD.

You're reading How can I completely erase a Seagate Freeagent External hard drive? The user manual says the only way to erase is if you forget what your password is for the encrypted files,but none of my files are encrypted.WTH?

Thanks for the help.I am also wondering if any kind of recovery program will be able to backup any info on the drive.I am selling it and i want to be sure that my files or none of my info can be recovered.

Programs with "wipe free disk space" function will do.

But if you do Full format instead of Quick format, then it will also remove all data on that disk.
