"Time Bandits" is an unusual movie from the mid 80's. It's a bizarre film, but one of my favorites.

"Breaker Morant" is also from the 80's and one of the most beautifully shot films of all time. It's set in southern Africa during the Boer War, I think, but it's not the typical war film.

"Smoke Signals" was made in the 90's & is a very interesting coming of age film about native american life today.

There are so many great films... it's difficult to say "This is something you have to see" but there is a film that I enjoyed a great deal, due to it's wonderful dialog. The writer was well attuned to the sixtie's "intellectual" maverick. It lacked in other respects, but the overlapping dialog and excitement of self-discovery was so well done, by William Hurt and cast, that I would be remiss if I didn't recommend it. "Altered States"

The movie "Mr Brooks" was suggested to me, and I really, really loved it. Dane Cook plays a role in the movie, and he does a really good job at taking on something different than his usual "funny role". Here's the synopsis

Academy Award winner Kevin Costner stars as Earl Brooks, a man who has managed to keep his two incompatible worlds from intersecting by controlling his cunning alter ego (Academy Award winner William Hurt). Neither his wife (Marg Helgenberger) or daughter (Danielle Panabaker) could conceive of the truth. But as Mr. Brooks succumbs to one more murderous urge, an amateur photographer (Dane Cook) witnesses the crime. Suddenly Brooks finds himself trapped in the twisted agenda of an opportunistic bystander, as well as hunted by an unorthodox and tenacious investigator, Tracy Atwood (Demi Moore). Now, a terrifying game is unfolding where desire is dark, knowledge is deadly and the man who has everything has everything to hide.

If you want "Interesting" Check ot the movie Momento.
It is very different to say the least.
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0209144/
The most notible feature is you watch it in reverse.
The first part of the movie you watch happened last.
Then in 5 to 15 minute sections you move backwards in time to what happened first.

    * the original Michael Haneke's " Funny Games " - if English is your language, it will be subtitled but it is a disturbing masterpiece, in my opinion. Suspense. Family is visited by two young guys in Tennis whites . . .

    * " Dancer in the Dark " possibly the best movie I have seen. Bjork wrote the music. She's in the movie, too. Very emotionally overwhelming movie! ( unless you find it stupid, which most of my peers found it to be ) Drama, quasi-musical in the strangest way.Bjork is slowly going blind, has visions of perfect musicals going through her head and then . . .

    * " Ravenous " with Guy Pierce. Defies any genre -- it's all types of film wrapped into one creepy little piece of nastiness, with humor and cannibalism and . . .

For 'different' films. Try Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (my avatar), eternal sunshine of the spotless mind, fight club, 2001 a space oddysey, pulp fiction, A clockwork orange...

    1)East of Eden

It is a movie about two brothers at odds with each other fighting over this one sweet attractive woman. In the movie, one brother finds out that their mother is still alive and runs a gentlemen's club but she is very corrupt and that brother realizes that is where he gets his drive from because his father is more laid-back like his brother. The brother who is like his mother fights for his father's approval too.

    It is a dramatic film.

I loved the rivalry that goes on between the two brothers and how one brother discovers his mother is still alive and how he really tries hard to win the approval of his father.

It is unique and interesting story wise. A lot of movies have been influenced by this movie and many actors have been inspired to be like James Dean who truly is the star in this great film.

    You will love it!

    2)Rebel Without a Cause

It is a movie about the teenager who moves to a new city and doesn't fit in. He is challenged in the movie to prove that he isn't a chicken by racing down a dirt road that leads to a cliff and the first person to jump out is the chicken.

    It is a dramatic film.

I loved the car race and the fight that happens before the car race. I think the relationship between the characters near the end of the movie is great.

It is not such a unique movie but it is very interesting.

    3)The Story of Three Loves

It is a movie that has three different storylines going on but my favorite storyline is the last one and it is called "Equilibrium."

The first storyline is about a dancer who is given an amazing chance to dance professionally and be the star of the show but she suddenly dies from a weak heart.

The second storyline is about a French tutor who falls in love with this man who is really the little boy she tutors who is given a magic spell that turns him into this grown man so that his French tutor can be a nicer woman towards him. It is extremely unique and interesting. Ricky Nelson plays the little boy in the movie.

The third storyline "Equilibrium" (my favorite) is about a trapeze artist in need of a new trapeze partner who ends up being this gorgeous Italian woman who tries to kill herself because her husband has just died in World War 2. The trapeze artist saves her from drowning and offers her a chance to have a better life by becoming his trapeze partner.

    It is a dramatic film.

I loved the storyline in this movie about the distraught woman who becomes a trapeze artist. My favorite line from any movie I have seen is in this film and it goes, "I haven't the strength to try again." This line is said when she is in the hospital after almost drowning.

It is both unique and interesting!

    4)Kings Go Forth

It is a movie about a beautiful woman who is half black and half white and she falls for this American serviceman overseas and he makes her believe that he is in love with her but he just uses her for her body and doesn't want to marry her because he is a racist. His comrad is outraged when he finds out that his so-called buddy is a racist and just wanted to use the woman but he realizes that with this racist out of the picture he can be with her and he does fall in love with her.

    It is a dramatic film.

I loved that this lovely beautiful mixed-raced woman finds true love by the end of the movie.

It is both unique and interesting.
