  • If you have a large and small mixing bowl you can "make" an ice cream maker. In the big one you put ice and salt, then set the smaller bowl on top of it.
  • Or - you can just use any recipe but instead of putting it in the ice cream maker, put it in a large freezer box - a little bigger than the quantity of ice cream - pop it in the freezer but take it out every half hour and stir it! The ice cream maker has two functions - one is to freeze the stuff, but the other is merely to stir it. You need to stir your gelato or other ice cream as it is freezing to prevent those little ice crystals from forming. If you pop the ice cream in a box, then take it out and stir it every half hour, it will still freeze well and will still turn to ice cream, but you will stir the little crystals out of it.
