I have had that done to me in Arkansas and yes there it is ok. So I would think yes they can.

if they think you are doing something wrong they can ask to see identification.

I have always been told that it is law that you must have ID on you at all times. So, yes, I think it is probably the same in Michigan.

You are not obligated to show your I.D. to any one nor are you even obligated to have an I.D.

in some states they have truency laws. what this means is that if you are a pedestrian they can stop and request your id to make sure your not a minor or what not in some states you can acctually be arrested for not haveing idetification on you.( the best thing is to ALWAYS have some sort of id on you at all times and never carry your social security card on you.)

the cops are profiling you if they just stop and ask for id. they are looking for someone who looks like you if you are in a transient status. cops lie to get their way. they can harass and their partner will back them up. i dont know the law, i would just cooperate rather than be uncooperative.
