  • A privilege is something that one may or may not have depending on one's circumstances. Privileges can also be withdrawn if one's circumstances change; if the conditions under which the privilege is granted change; or if other sets of circumstances intervene. There is no such thing as a right.
  • Right carries the connotation of something that should not be violated no matter who you are where you live etc, rights are seen as universally applicable whereas privileges carries the connotation of something that a person of status should be grateful of and is not universally applicable rather something preserved for the selective elite.
  • In today's 'egalitarian' society = The former is granted; the latter earned. - ;-)
