  • Often when sitting/lieing for a while and then getting up, they tend to stretch out their front legs, then stretch out on and then the other back legs into the air, just as we stretch when w get up. Sometims they continue to stretch their hind legs especially when walking at first. Of course, your cat may have just laid funny and be getting pins and needles, the neural system and muscle physiology is comparable to our own. There is always the possibility that it has picked up a small injury, perhaps pulled a muscle or similar, and is just favouring one side slightly. This normally goes as the injury heals, but it is worth checking the cat over, especially around it's legs to look for any grazes/cuts that could become infected, and keep an eye on them.
  • The "pins and needles" feeling happens when there is loss of blood flow to a certain area of the body. Blood does run through the veins of cats, so I think it is entirely possible that your cat's extremity went numb. Or as ChrisDG said, the cat could have injured itself. If it continues to walk funny, you may want to pay attention. Othwerwise, I think you were probably right.
