  • None have been praised like Jesus has been if we are talking about Christians. Otherwise there are far more highly praised beings. For example the Buddha. It's all metaphorical with Jesus and the bible. He sacrificed himself to try and show us the way and so that God would spare us.
  • According to Christians Jesus isn't just a man. He is the Son of God, so his death would probably be more effective at sin-cleansing. Bang and the Sin is gone!
  • He was a nice person, just a little nutty. He thought he was God's human incarnation, whereas really God just wanted him to be a prophet. The dialogue with God proved too much for him, however. People believe him because he did so many good things, and convinced them they were miracles. When he sacrificed himself, the believers couldn't stand the thought he was just an ordinary prophet, so they made him the Son of God. These people we now know as Christians. The circumstances as such at that time have never been repeated, nor foreshadowed.
  • Because Jesus is GOD, born to a virgin and not the tainted blood of man, he is sinless. Before Jesus, spotless lambs were sacrificed. When Jesus was born he was the Spotless Lamb and gave up his life as payment for man's sin; God chose to be born human for that specific purpose. Because of the original sin, no other human has ever been born sinless and therefore could not stand as our advocate.
  • He was very special to those who believe in him. To the rest of us (the vast majority of the world's population) he was just yet another prophet in the Middle East. I'm sure if he was alive just now he would either be in a mental institution or a beggar. The really interesting question is how did so many people come to believe he was so very special, even to the extent of believing nonsensical things like he was born of a virgin, he performed miracles, and came back from the dead. Puh-lease! These were either cheap conjuring tricks at the time or (more likely) lies added after the fact to make a better story. I have a very great deal of sympathy with some of Jesus's teachings; but I would say as much for very many other thinkers and teachers over the years, none of whom were considered especially divine in the sense that Jesus is by his believers.
  • Seeing as this question is not under Christianity, the answer is: nothing. Yeshua Ben Yoseph was not the messiah. Ironically, the Romans who crucified him (along with countless other Jews) quickly adopted Christianity for their uses.
  • Regarding "evolution", it is just a theory and NEVER been proven. As to the big bang - God said "Let there be" and BANG "there was" so the Big Bang theory may have some merit.
  • because to christians, Jesus is the son of God Plus because of what He did...no one needs to sacrifice themselves because they arready are saved
  • Ok here is the correct theological answer. Prior to Jesus God required animal sacrifices to repent for sin. Jesus came and perfectly obeyed the law and the will of God. His perfect life was then sacrificed on the cross and took upon it God's righteous punishment upon all of us as he took in all of the sin of those who accept him.
  • I don't see Jesus's death as a sacrifice, nor do I see his life and death as any more important than that of the Buddha, Gandhi, Krishna, or any other great teacher/humanitarian.
  • According to Christian belief, Jesus died to save us all from an eternity in hell. His sacrifice not only saved one or two people, it saved the whole human race. It did this by giving everyone a chance to spend an eternity in heaven with him if and only if they would be baptized in his name and follow his teachings. By being baptized in his name Christians would be able to wash away Original Sin, which is the sin inherited by all mankind from the first humans, Adam and Eve.
  • It is a rather complicated to explain, because what I am about to write, is a faith issue, not science, but here it is in very short form. All scripture quotes are from Bible – NIV Version, and for sake of the size of the answer, not all scripture will be displayed as a quote. Since the fall of man was caused by one man Adam, ever since, God has worked on the way to bring man back into the fellowship. The rules he gave to Moses (Ten Commandments) did not do very well. Even after he wiped out entire creation because it was not god, (Genesis 6:5), and start the new from those that entered the ark, (Noah’s Ark). The “new” batch was not much better. Since this did not work, It seams like God decided to make a new covenant (testament), one that we hopefully would be able to keep. According to New Testament in the Bible, He promised to write the “rules” in our harts and in our minds. Here conscience comes to my mind. So these “rules” should be as close to as instinct that we are all very familiar with. That is maybe why we instantly are capable of separating good from evil, because our conscience is like a searchlight of the Lord, pointing to issues that either warns, or encourages us to proceed. On we go… Just like in some cultures crime can be “atoned for “ by innocent person. Example – If my son has been found guilty for steeling, and penalty (law) calls for his hand to be cut off, I can take his place voluntarily and he would be set free. Jesus’ death on the cross was atonement for all men. Bible clearly states that we all are sinners, not even one is righteous (without sin). Romans 3:23. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," Penalty for Sin is death. Only correction (way out)to that statement is found in John 3:16. John 3:16 (New International Version) "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Jesus is our (human race) atonement. So it seams that those that ‘believe” in Him, are recipients of the inheritance, which is eternal life. Why only He could do this? Because the sacrifice had to be sinless, and Bible clearly states that He was without Sin. Good material to read would be all four Gospels in the Bible. I am not sure if this helps or not, in any case, it is a very good question.
  • To understand this you have to realize that Christianity considers itself the fulfillment of the Old Testament. The sacrifices done in the Hebrew Temples are considered temporal signs that point to the eternal sacrifice that Jesus made (one symbolic picture of this is when God provides Abraham a ram to sacrifice instead of his son Isaac, the ram is a symbol of Jesus' future sacrifice to cover the death that has been earned by man's sin). Just as every person is tainted by sin, the entire planet has been corrupted, which is why we see natural disasters and all sorts of evil. This means that the animal sacrifices performed by the Hebrews in the Old Testament were flawed by the corruption of sin as well and unable to provide permanent forgiveness, which is why the High Priest had to enter the Holy of Holies every year to make the sacrifice for the nation of Israel. Since only God is perfect and untainted by sin, he had to be the one to make the sacrifice for man, so he came in bodily form as Jesus and sacificed himself on the cross. Three days later he rose from the dead, conquering death and sin. 40 days after that he ascended into Heaven, and is there as our eternal High Priest to speak on behalf of the sins of those that place faith in him. Just as God didn't accept the sacrifice in the Old Testament unless the Hebrews committed themselves to him laying claim that the sacrifice was needed and offered for them, Jesus' sacrifice doesn't cover you unless you accept it as being needed and for you.
  • Simply put, he was the only begotten son of God. That is why. He was sent here to die for OUR sins and establish a New Covenant between God and his people. Yes, many other people have also died for the Cause, and that is why they are part of the Communion of Saints in heaven. But only Jesus was the son of the Holy Father. Peace to all.
  • The Bible says: Jesus lived the life all humans failed to live (i.e He treated God as God and did not rebel) and He died the death we deserved to die for our rebellion. Trust in Him and the price for our rebellion is paid for.
  • Jesus death on the cross was different than the sacrifices because of these: He lived only to help people He could heal people He could read other peoples thoughts He was murdered but came back to life and walked out of his grave...
  • God planted a seed inside the virgin Mary. Mary was chosen to bear God's Son, and He was to be called Emmanuel-which means God with us. God sent His Son into the world to save us from our sins. Also John 3:16 is a good reference. Jesus is God, and did the will of His Father.
  • Because Jesus was witout sin, He was God in the flesh. He was born of a virgin and thus did not inherent the original sin. His blood was not tainted with sin as ours is. Christ was the only One perfect enough to atone for our sins at Calvary, and He is the only One that rose from the dead by His own power and is living today at the right hand of God the Father. I hope that this is helpful. -In the service of King Jesus Thank you and God bless you!
  • As Jesus was being crucified and nearing his death, he looked down on those gathered around him. Those that were murdering him were there. On the cross he said, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." (Luke 23:34) This he asked of his Father as he hung on the cross for those people who were, at that very moment, murdering him. He was the perfect sacrifice because he himself committed no sins nor did he bend his will to the will of Satan. If he had condemned his murderers from the cross, even as he was dying, it would have been a valid judgement, but he did not judge or condemn them. Instead, he revealed to us the nature of his Father. His Father sacrificed his son, who has no fault, that we might know the one who sent him. God has not changed. He would still rather die than to condemn his own murderers. This is the nature of our Creator and of his only _begotten_ son Jesus. As Jesus said, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No man cometh to the Father, but by me. If you had known me, you would without doubt have known my Father also: and from henceforth you shall know him. And you have seen him. Philip saith to him: Lord, show us the Father; and it is enough for us. Jesus saith to him: Have I been so long a time with you and have you not known me? Philip, he that seeth me seeth the Father also. How sayest thou: Show us the Father? Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father in me? The words that I speak to you, I speak not of myself. But the Father who abideth in me, he doth the works." (John 14:6 - 14:10)

  • General ignorance and following some belief in the invisible boogie man. Many have endured MUCH worse suffering than the tale of Jesus and ironically the story only gets worse every years. Psudo science has the nails hammered into the most vulnerable nerves in his wrist/hands and so on. He wasn't by any stretch the only one crucified so making one individual up there as a god is plain silly and gullible to the extreme. If he was a real god surely the suffering could have been MUCH worse.. Why didn't they boil his feet in oil then peel his fingernails off or some much worse deed? The reason is because once the tale was told it was to late. They can't just take it all back and say, OH wait! It was boiling in oil..that's right.. Our mistake.. If they could they would in a heart beat.
