Washington Senator ace Walter Johnson, who won 417 games. Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Joe Jackson considered him the best they ever faced. His career strikeout record lasted for half a century, and no one's ever come close to his mark of 110 shutouts; some of his Senator teams were so bad, the only way Johnson could win was literally to keep opponents from scoring.

Nolan Ryan....Seven no-hitters..
-
I would Narrow it down to three pitchers, Cy Young, Nolan Ryan, or Mariano Rivera because when it comes to pitching, there is nobody better than them.

According to this: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/legendary/lits10p.shtml http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/player.php?p=johnswa01 Walter Johnson

Well, you might consider Whitey Ford. He has more World Series wins (10) than any one pitcher. He won over 200 games with a career ERA of 2.75 and almost 2000 strikeouts.
-
Walter Johnson is a pretty darn good answer. For further consideration: Cy Young, Sandy Koufax, and Bob Gibson.
-
Cy Young who holds many pitching records is tied with Walter Johnson as the best pitcher in the history of the game, in my opinion
-
I go with Nolan Ryan. Very consistent during his career. My 2 cents.

Satchel Paige. Every big leaguer he faced in exhibition games says so. Among people who thought he should have been allowed in the majors: Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Jimmie Foxx. . .and even Dizzy Dean. Dean was a good ole country boy, but he BEGGED the Cardinals to break the color line for him. "We'll win 60 games between us!" he said. For a guy like him to be that enthusiastic, well, that says it all. By the way, when Satchel heard about it he said, "I'll win 60 games by myself!" Okay, but if you insist one a major leaguer, I'll say Cy Young.
