  • I think the ones who badmouth them John, are those who have gotten into trouble with the police. The average person, like myself, is greatful we have them, they are 3 digits away and that is a very safe secure feeling.
  • They are users usually, the kind that will be a friend to your face, and an enemy behind your back. What Justnormal said is also a fact, that most anyone who does not like a police officer, has a reason not to, and it is no ones fault but their own, they just won't admit it!
  • No one likes the police when they are handing you a ticket for speeding. But everyone likes them when they are in trouble. There are also a lot of people out there that seem to be opposed to any sembelence of law and order.
  • I think the bad mouthing comes from interactions with or observances of those who abuse the power, but there is still worthy respect for the concept of a just police force. Personally, I greatly respect the police and have never had a problems with them, but I would love to know why some abuse the power and use emergency lights to break traffic laws. We've all seen examples of running red lights and u-turns on their way to restaurants or such. We are not so naive as to believe these were all canceled emergencies.
  • There are countless instances of police brutality every year and it's been documented that most of it is dealt to minorities and the poor. That said, my son is a Sergeant in our county's Sheriff's Department. He is respectful of people and believes his job is to protect and serve. There are good cops and there are bad cops, and there are people who have legitimate grievances against the police and people who think it makes them look cool to do so. There's no answer really to your question.
  • Bad mouthing depends on the cop and the situation. When I get a speeding ticket for driving only 2 miles/hour to fast, or a parking ticket on an empty parking for being 2 minutes to late, it makes me grumpy. But when they help me out, or let me off with a warning, I show a similar amount of gratitude.
  • I beleive it is called "the people you love to hate".
  • Like anything else, bad publicity about the police is what makes the news. For instance, there was a recent story of a man who was in hypoglycemic shock and was stopped by the police. He didn't respond to their questions or instructions, so they tased him (before realizing that he was sick, not drunk). In cases like this one, the bad press is probably justified. Police officers are taught to recognize hypoglycemia; if they tased someone in that condition, it was carelessness at best and malice at worst. In other cases, however, the bad publicity is probably overblown.
  • First, they deserve it. Second, when you place a call to 911, it is their job to tend to it (you, me and the rest of the American taxpayers are paying their salary to do just that). Last, people have the right to complaint if they they feel like it. If you have any doubts, please, refer to #2 again
  • Because some of them deserve it and what else could we do the cops that beat the shit out of Rodney for example. We are not bad mouthing ALL cops, but a lot of people have had unsavory encounters with police that were unnecessary. As far as their JOB is concerned... we call them first because they are the cops...Sometimes they don't even come right away, a young lady was killed and could have potentially been saved if the police got there sooner than 45 minutes...
  • I never had a bad experience with a cop, I dont bad mouth cops. My husband is an officer. Even if he wasnt i wouldnt bad mouth them. I never had a bad experience with them.
  • I only badmouth him for he continues to wear those highwaters........Fortunately when I was hiding in the closet from an overzealous cable guy, the first thing I noticed were the familiar boots and those beautiful pants...........
