Psoriasis is a noncontagious, lifelong skin disease. It usually appears as raised, red patches or lesions covered with a silvery white buildup of dead skin cells, called scale (they peel and shed off). Eczema is a name for a variety of noncontagious skin conditions. It is an allergic condition because sufferers exhibit IgE (immunoglobulin E) antibodies like other allergies that affect the skin. It's much more common in young children and usually begins in babies and in families with a history of allergies. It can be triggered by any allergen. Another name for eczema is dermatitis. It creates dry, flaky skin or even small bumps that appear over red, inflamed areas, causing intense itching and burning. Scratching causes spreading. Many children outgrow eczema but others have it for life.
