  • I had a similar problem. I can think of two different things to check. 1) inline fuel filter--it is attached to the drivers side, inside of the frame, at about the location of the driver's seat. 2) fuel pump relay-- located under the hood, drivers side, square black box close to the brake master cylinder. My fuel pump relay had worked loose. When I pushed it back in firmly, the truck started on the first try. The under side of lid to the box shows the location of the relay. Be sure to orient the diagram according to the location of the two studs/lugs on the back side/firewall side of the box. Hope these help. This is a frustrating problem and changing the fuel pump is a real pain. The last time I changed mine, I took the bed off. It was much easier than dropping the tank. We Removed spare tire, trailer hitch, 8 bed bolts, unplugged tail light wiring harness and disconnected the gasoline filler neck. Three of us lifted the bed off by hand. Took a total of 30 minutes to remove and 30 to put it back. We changed out the pump assembly in about 30 minutes. Total job was 90 minutes. I've Ddopped the tank three times and the total job ran 3.5 to 4.5 hrs. each time.
