  • i dont think it matters, its just like having a doctor of the opposite sex, you eventually put aside feelings and focus on the situation professionally. so i dont think it matters
  • Sadly, my first therapist was a male and he tried to convince me that my depression and anxiety are due to the fact I'm a woman and I have PMS. So I would say after that experience, I would hesitate to meet with any therapist that wasn't female.
  • if i ever decide to go to therapy i want it to be like this, typing, cause i dont like people that much as well as i dont open up verbaly and i feel more comfortable typing. im more expressive through words.
  • It may depend upon where the individual is in relation to the issues they need to address. Many years ago, before my own training as a psychotherapist, I went to a male therapis as I didn't trust females. As I progressed on my journey I became more aware of my deeper issues and eventually chose to work with a female. Now, I would say that if a client is particularly uncomfortable with one or other gender then that may be a big indicator of what their issues are about. But, it's important for everyone to go at their own pace and therefore we need to respect that. It's most important that a client feels safe with whoever s/he chooses.
  • def easier..My therapist is a female and I don't think I would be able to open up to a male therapist about a lot of my issues.
  • I have had females and males and I seem to be more comfortable with the males. I guess it would depend on what I was talking to them about too. I have a problem telling a male therapist about my sex life but other than that I prefer males.
  • I think same sex are better role models. Opposite sex, as long as their minds are in 2009. +3
