News article stated that minivans were more prone to overturning than other vehicles. Reported went on to say, to make this even worse, many of the drivers of these vehicles are women. Why does this make it worse?

I don't think it does. I also think that the smaller SUV's are much more apt to roll. The wheel base on the SUV's is shorter which makes them roll easier.

Men are considered to be more expendable and their death or serious injury less tragic.

It is probably the mother angle but some articles are poorly written without much thought given to them, just to get the magazine or webpage out the door.
