Noticing that while watching movies, my new dvd player hesitates for a second and then resumes. Don't think it's the dual-layer thing because it happens about every half hour or so. What else could it be? It's not the DVD movie. They are new/clean.

The DVD player reads the disk by slowly moving the reading head from the centre to the outer edge of the disk. Layer changes can occur if the reader loses focus with the disk surface. Another possibility is that a tiny bit of grit is preventing the reader from moving smoothly along the guides or focusing. it takes a GREAT deal of care to clean one of these, not recommended for non-techies. If your unit is really new it may be a defect too. Check it out for warranty.
