You need to find another doctor that will take you serious!!

You have been on your period for 6 months now? Why have you not switched doctors if she will not do anything?
-
I don't know what kind of doctor you went to, but anyone who has been bleeding for 6 months straight needs help. I'd either change doctors or find a specialist.

Yes, some birth control pills with a high hormone amount will stop that. My old roommate has the same exact problem. I can ask her what pill she is on and get back to you.

a new doctor to start with and yes there is an injection you can get that puts you into artificial mnapause that stops your period for a few months

Has your doctor told you the reason you have been bleeding for six months? Is it fibroids, change of life, weight gain/loss? Do you need a hysterctomy? You can't just start taking birth control pills - you need certain ones for your age, etc. Can you give more info please?

An unending period like that is a common symptom of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome which is one of the most common gynecological disorders. I've seen estimates as high as 30% of women being affected with it. Common symptoms are obesity, hirsutism (especially on the face and abdomen), irregular, absent or unending periods, and infertility. You can have it without having all the symptoms. Untreated, it can lead to diabetes. If your doctor isn't treating it, find another doctor. Birth control will stop the irregular periods. I don't know if it will help the other issues that come with it.

New doctor would be the most important step to make. Most doctors will start you on a progesterone program to see if that helps. She should have scheduled an ultrasound. If she did not see anything there she should have done a uterine biopsy, then a blood test to see if you have PCOS. Will BC help? Maybe, but all the other things should be investigated if your period has lasted that long.

Find a new Doctor soon.

That happened to me when I got the Depo shot as a birth control method. It was supposed to regulate my period but it made me get it non-stop for 6 months. I think it's all a conspiracy of the tampon companies to make us pay hundreds of dollars on tampons and pads! Kidding! Kind of. But definitely see another doctor but I say don't just get on birth control right off cuz it could make you bleed more and irregularly.

MCS is right

if its been6months, i dont think its a period problem, i think its an indoor plumbing problem that can be getting more and more serious. This happened to my mother. The end result was a full hestorectomy. I believe you should find a new doctor and look into it more.
