Why is downrating taken so seriously? I mean you don't really get anything for being a top weekly contributor and they don't really count against your overall score. So why stress?

Exactly. After you've been here for so long, the points really don't matter anymore. I state my opinion and however people want to treat it is their business. Now comments are what i look for. I'm here mostly for them.

Consider the source of the discontent. Ironically enough, the unhappy people are the ones who claim that they don't need material posessions, particularly, where they're going when they die. HA HA!

I imagine it's because none of us like to be told that something we have said has been thought of as unhelpful, although most people who downrate often don't seem to be people whose opinions and approach to life I would share. So I don't bother myself about it.

I don't really care but I believe in the downrating. If you're angered enough to downrate somebody you should tell them why and sack up and let them know "Hey I downrated you because...." That's what I do. I usually only downrate stupid questions ie: What's the sound of silence? But again...who really gives a shit.

It is taken seriously by some because they try to write a good answer and help the person that asked the question. The points don't mean squat to the person, but they are everything to the answers. It's what the person that asked the question can use to help them find the best or more accurate answer, the most helpful. Hopefully the better answers rise to the top. That is the whole idea of the points. And since this is supposed to be a database of information, others might find the question and answers through a search engine and also come looking for those answers. But since this site has turned more social and community many of those uses for points aren't as accurate or useful, though it still works for many categories. That's no reason to abuse the whole system.

I don't even pay attention to points, If someone agrees with me and gives me points that's cool but I think it's only fair that someone can give me negs if they disagree. What a boring world it would be if everyone agreed with me! I laugh at people who call it trolling, If it's trolling them I get trolled a lot. I get negged virtually every day for something. It doesn't take away from your point score at all so it's no big deal. I actually find it amusing to get negatives. I don't understand people who take it so seriously, It just shows that someone disagrees the same way a positive point shows they do agree. Life's way to short to stress over points LOL! Especially points that have no value of any kind, I mean, What can we cash our points in for? NOTHING! LOL! They are completely valueless! BUT 5 points to you anyway! +++++

up rating nor down rating has NOT mattered to me since i started..only trying to help and learn myself....and only found about 3 months ago, how my level was going up, by my 11 yr old grandson!! he checks me alot now...says ,hmmph, i always knew u were smart ,Mimi...lol... but then he used to tell his mother to call me, that i knew everything!!ha!! when he was about 4 and 5, he truly believed this...I just tell him , for sure ,I don't ,just lived a littler longer and got a a little wiser...as he will.... i dont care...i just see it as difference of opinion or hit someones sore spot...that what its all about...talking,advising,asking and agreeing or disagreeing.... if becomes a stressful thing, we should stop....
