The only group of words acceptable to me is "please be quiet". I have never used "shut up" nor have I ever heard it directed toward me. They are totally useless words when coupled and should be abandoned as the antiquated insult they are! Happy Monday! :)

"QUIET" "SILENCE" "SETTLE DOWN CLASS" "SHUT THE F**K UP!"-that one will work for it's pure shock factor.
