  • No it is their job, if they did not offer it to you, you may complain. Or you may be like me.... no room for the rest of main course because you can not eat large amounts of the same dish with out wretching but really need that dessert!
  • Oh that is amazing! I can never finish my meal either but as long as there is cheese cake of any kind on the menu I get that to go too, so I think he is just doing his job in "capturing the sale"
  • No it's really part of the job, alot of people will eat a few bites and then take the rest of the desert home also -
  • Funny? No. They know a lot of people expect to have dessert regardless of how much of the entree they do or don't eat. Also - the tea and coffee service at better restaurants is often only offered at the end of the meal - and is part of the dessert selection. Adults don't usually "have to" finish their meal to get dessert. Avoid the bread, have the salad/soup and entree. Consider a sorbet or cheese flight for the finish.
  • A good waiter or waitress knows how to upsell. That means suggesting appetizers before the meal, dessert at the end of the meal and depending on the type of restaurant, a good bottle of wine to complement the entrees. The higher they can push the ticket price, the higher their tip is going to be.
