Stay off the Atkin's diet.

A nice bowl of oatmeal at least 5 times a week will definitely lower your cholesterol but since you dislike it then sprinkle cinnamon on anything you can. I heard it helps somewhat.

Whole wheat bread instead of white bread. Brown rice instead of white rice. Avoid fried foods. Your doctor should be able to give you a list of foods to avoid. I'm taking a pill for high triglycerides, Simchor. It has been working really well.

Drink lots of skimmed milk & low fat cheese,cut out the cookies,cut out the chocolate.Eat lots of chicken salads,and lay off the alcohol.Life ain't going to be worth living from now on is it?

Lean vegetarian, June. Stay away from eggs, butter, and meat ( animal fats ).

Avoid dairy products. I had mine checked in October and it was high and I started taking the "Core Complex" from herbalife and I just had it checked again and the numbers had went back down.
