  • I volunteer once a week at the animal shelter, either walking the dogs or socializing with the kitties. I'm actually allergic to cats but I've found out that I can tolerate them for short periods if I wash my hands a lot. I love getting to meet so many animals and keep them company while they're waiting for a new home! I also have helped out at the Food Bank with sorting food and other goods and packing them into boxes for shipping to the food pantries. It's a lot more physical work than I expected but it's amazing how much can get done in a short time if everyone works hard. I have also donated blood for Red Cross and about a foot of hair to Locks of Love last month. The blood donation really wiped me out and I don't think I can do it again as my blood pressure didn't seem to like it. But the hair donation I will definately do again as soon as it grows out.
