  • In conversation with someone like in a chat room or IM, I say anything goes as long as the person you are addressing understands what you mean. On AnswerBag Answers - I think some level of spelling mistakes and grammar is acceptable as long as it is readable and makes sense. Questions - I am very finicky about proper spelling, punctuation, and grammar. The question is what is used for search purposes. So, if it is wrong, the question may get answered but can never be found again. The question becomes useless and just takes up space on the site.
  • I have trouble with poor grammar, punctuation and sentence construction I see here. I am sure my own output is not 100% perfect but at least I try. It may sound harsh but I'm getting the impression the language is about to die. Into Farenheit 411 territory, here. Oh, and using numbers or text-message style speech? Unforgivable. I won't touch those questions. Lazy chimps. Use the whole keyboard!
  • Spelling mistakes make me want to get a red pen out and correct them!
  • I'm from the south so poor grammar and punctuation not a problem for me. I'm a patient person, as long as I can read it and decipher it..It's cool. I don't have a huge problem with something as simple as grammar or punctuation mistakes.
  • It doesn't really bother me if someone else does it, but it drives me crazy if I do it!
  • I would agree with the majority, no one will ever be perfect 100% of the time, and I admit freely that I'm not always perfect in my structure, but when I see things like: when i went to the store it was fun and do you know what i saw i saw a dog it was brown It makes me want to find that person and ban them from the internet! *steams* I also hate the so-called text messaging: (wut r u dng l8r). There is a whole keyboard for a reason, and sure you think it saves time, but doesn't it usually take the time you thought you were saving to read the message? The point I'm trying to make is, just make some sort of effort. The way you type actually gives off an image. In my opinion, typing without punctuation or with text messaging makes you look uneducated. I don't think it's snobbish, its just something that happens naturally. It makes me sad to see people who are very smart make that mistake, because I end up not taking them seriously. NOTE: I dont think that all people who make mistakes or prefer typing that way are idiots. I just mean that it gives me an image, and thats how I might see them.
  • Doesn't drive me mad but I do notice many grammatical errors as well as spelling errors. I tend to make them myself more often!!!
  • It doesn't drive me mad, but the written word is a lot easier to read when the writer spells and punctuates correctly, and follows the standard rules of English grammar. What else can you go on? You can't hear intonation and cadence in the writer's voice, nor can you see gestures and body language. Read the following sentence: Woman without her man is nothing. After adding a dash and a comma, however, a different idea emerges: Woman - without her, man is nothing.
  • We all notice, but most people on answerbag do not ackowledge it. But, i do. i hate to see a question run all together as one paragraph. it makes the question difficult to understand. I make every attempt to use proper grammar and spelling, in my questions. i sometimes have to use a dictionary for certain words and meanings. Its an effort, but i believe people judge another person by their written word.
