  • I'm not sure I understand your question. "Is there a list of [sins] or is everything awful that you [do] as sin. We're familiar with the 7 Deadly Sins: Lust, Gluttony, Greed, Sloth, Wrath, Envy, and Pride. The Catholic Church divided sin into two principal categories: "venial", which are relatively minor, and could be forgiven through any sacraments of the church, and the more severe "capital" or mortal sin. This is why so many people are so mislead in the topic. There is no, I repeat NO sacrament, PERIOD, that will forgive sin. There is NO good life, good works, purgatory, or any other claim, idea, liturgy, teaching, plan, or action of man that will negate, lessen, or eliminate sin. When you go to Church and the Priest gives Absolution you are no cleaner than you were when you walked in. No man, no church, nothing but Jesus Christ can forgive sin to salvation. Sin is defined as 'missing the mark.' What mark? Well, that's a little complicated to define. It basically means that 'If you know to do right and don't do it, you've sinned, and if you know not to do wrong, or the appearance of wrong, and do it, you've sinned. All the way back to Genesis, God demanded blood sacrifice for the forgiveness of sin. With the exception of Jesus' crucifixion all blood sacrifice was symbolic. It was faith looking toward the future crucifixion as our faith is looking back on the crucifixion is our salvation. It is Grace. The sacrifice of the Lamb of God that shed His Blood to cover our sins.
