It was called "The Eye Book".

I want to say that Dr. Seuss wrote it, but I don't know.

    I was 3 1/2 when I did.

When I was about 3 my dad would read "The Night Before Christmas", and I had memorized it, but because of memorizing it I was able to figure out which words meant what I was saying.

No. I've been reading for longer than I can remember. My parents say that both me and my sister were reading at age 2, so who knows what the first book was! Could have been something by Dr. Seuss, could have been a fairy tale of some sort, could have been anything, really.

The first book I *remember* reading was a Little Golden Book about the alphabet. There was a sentence for each letter of the alphabet.

I only remember because I practiced reading it every night so that I could read it to my kindergarten class, but when I brought it in, my teacher wouldn't let me because it wasn't a story book. You'd think a teacher would know better.

I read it in French...being French and all that and just discovered that a film was made from it! I might just buy a new copy and read it again...in English this time!!

I believe I was in kindergarten when I read Jonathan Jasper Jeremy Jones, a book about a caterpillar and his journey in becoming a butterfly.
Aside from that, around the beginning of elementary, I was reading Dr. Seuss books- my favorite being Are You My Mother? That story still makes me cry to this day...

I think it was a set of children's encyclopedias. The first medium book was Tales of the Arabian Nights, followed closely by Bullfinches Mythology, and the Bible.

The first one I read alone was one of those thick Dick and Jane books that start out "See Spot Run", but I'd been following the books my mom read to me before that. Far more complex books for a little kid. Needless to say, Dick and Jane books were quickly left behind....
