  • Depends. Did you sign a waiver upon admitting the dog? What does it stipulate about "runaway" animals in there? Has the vet offered to replace the animal or apologized? If they have apologized, then that's an obvious sign of admission of wrong doing. However, it means nothing, even if the technician was negligent, if you signed a waiver. If there was no waiver, then you have yourself a case. Keep the lines of communication between you and the vet open. Ask how they plan to precede with this incident. Tell them you feel their actions were negligent and caused the incident. Ask that they either replace the animal or offer a monetary settlement. Be polite. When things start getting out of hand or you feel there's nothing more you can do, retain a lawyer and file a claim in small claims court. You will have to prove, though, that the lab technician was negligent.
  • Sue for negligence. Some vets shouldn't even be allowed NEAR animals.
