  • First, recognize that they aren't here to make you feel good. They are a gift from God and they are perfect the way God made them! Encourage them in school and ask the teachers for detailed feedback, including what they are good at and what needs improvement. Get tutoring if needed. Praise goes a hell of a long way, too.
  • Wash them daily with vinegar. Helps grow the smart bugs. If you fell for that, your children are screwed genetically.
  • Set a good example and make sure you are smarter and cleverER.
  • do TO them? just find what interest them and what skill they show promise at. then make tools available to them to mess with and expand thier abilities within thier interest. expose them to controversy and problems both emotional and stategic, let them find thier own solutions. encourage bizaar thought patterns and notice when they resolve even the smallest issue in a less then obvios way. being more clever comes from finding unique solutions to common problems. the cannot grom if they are shelterd...guide them into situations you my think above thier abilites and they will surprize you.
  • LOL,first, don't use words like cleverer!! Try more clever.Introduce the joy of reading to them.Make one night a reading night,we even read the same book together out loud taking turns. My daughter is 14,has jumped two grades, and is already earning college credits as a freshman in high school. She has already recieved offers from M.I.T.,among others to go to college. We bought her a kindle(search it at amazon)and she reads 3-5 books a week. She was also playing jumpstart games on the computer at 18 mos.By 2 y.o. she was teaching the day care teachers how to run the computer.MOSTLY,spend time EVERY DAY working with them, reviewing homework, work on spelling and handwriting...My wife's a teacher,(first year),and the disasters she sees everyday at her high school confirms what I am saying. Most parents want to throw money at their kids,or let the tv,or teachers RAISE their kids...Believe me,if you wait for that to happen,it's too late. Also contact their teachers, find out what they need to work on,and then HELP them!It must be a full time job, working with them...
  • The best thing you can do is provide them with a nutritious diet, lots of lean protein, fresh fruits and veg containing vitamins, minerals and the essential amino acids. I.e. brain food. cut down on sugars which make kids hyperactive then sluggish. Ensure they are physically active. Active kids sleep better and concentrate better in school. Make plenty of books and information resources available to them. Provide them with a range of toys and games that encourage logic and strategy. Give them quiet space to explore their own interests, time on their own to read, write play etc. Provide an enriching environment for them. A stable calm, loving homelife. Communicate with their teachers to find out where they are strong and and any areas where the child needs extra support and provide it.
  • Be honest with them and always tell them the truth,if they want to know something.
