When I wear sterling silver for just one day, it goes jet black. And it takes for ever to clean it with a jewelry cloth. I also live in a hot climate so that might affect it. Is there a way to prevent it from happening? And why does it go black?

it is called oxidation, with climate and your sweat, possibly too acidic, is causing it too go black so quickly, I have a solid silver necklace and cross, and it tarnishes but not too quickly

Your natural body is acidic and has a tarnishing effect on the jewelry. Climate will a only a small effect on the silver and would never turn it that fast. My suggestion is to make gifts of your Sterling and wear stainless steel. It's very in-expensive, a great looking earring can be had for $10.00. It won't tarnish and it has the look of platinium. I write this because I don't believe there is any way to prevent this from happening. My niece has the same problem and she gifted all of her jewelry to her sister and friends.
