Assuming that the vehicle has coil springs in the rear, it is not unusual for new springs to sit a little higer until they "settle in" as you say. However, if you did not replace the front springs at the same time, you probably have a front end which is sitting lower than factory ride height which is making the rear appear higher than it should be. Check with an alignment shop and get the ride height specifications. If you are too low in the front, new springs are in order. If you are too high in the rear, check to make sure the springs were the correct application for the vehicle.
