Question

Help answer this question below.

If I named a future daughter Emerald would she be made fun of in school? I think the name would be so pretty to have, but everyone else tells me I'm setting her up for the lonely type of life I had in school.

ROTFL, the Irish are the best! My Laz is Irish by heritage as well, has a wicked sense of humor. Regard your job at Mickey D's as a cruel joke of fate, laugh it off and give your future daughter a beautiful Irish name! Best of luck to you!

Graduate Student gave you excellent advice! Name her Emerald if you like, but then give her "Susan" or "Nancy" as her middle name in ccase the bullies find something wrong with Emerald. In my case, Emerald reminds me to the Emerald Isle: Ireland!

I like Emerald. It's a bit oldish sounding though, so I agree with GraduateStudent that a middle name might be nice.

I mean, her nick would be Emy or Emma or simply Em' in the future anyway (at least here in Australia as we tend to shorten EVERYTHING).

I think it is a slightly unusual name, but not weird unusual, just uncommon unusual. I don't think she would have any problems with that name.

Unless your last name is "Ring", it should be just fine.

She'll be head and shoulders above all the girls whose names are impossible to spell phonetically. (Alizabythe, anyone?)

I think Emerald is a beautiful name, for a gem of a daughter! Depends on what your last name is...is there any possibility that a pun could be made using her first and middle or last names? If so you might want to rethink your choice...I was a "loner" all throughout my scholastic life as well, had nothing whatsoever to do with my name...if you show her how to be strong, be her own person and teach her that the only opinion of her that she needs to be concerned about is her own, then she will grow up to be a wonderful woman, as you are yourself!

It sounds beautiful, that is what I think.
However... you may be right. She may be teased. It may be a little over the top for her whole life, "I'm Emerald." So she may want to establish herself as Emily or something? Don't worry too much about it. Kids aren't THAT bad...

There are certainly worse names to have. I'm a bit hairtrigger about dumb names, but Emerald as a girl's name doesn't bother me.

Kids can be so cruel. Why not give her a traditional name and nickname her Emerald?

I think it is a wonderful name. I will give her the pet name 'Emmy'. Sounds nice to me.

If you like the name, i don't see any reason why not to name your child Emerald. Teach her how to stand up for herself, but I doubt anyone would make fun of her name. :)

My daughter has the same middle name to honour her maternal and paternal grandmothers, Emily and Emma.

name her emerald and call her a nick name around other kids if you think that would help. Like emma or emmy something like that.

I know a girl named Emerald. No one hes ever made fun of her name. I kinda like the name personally. You could always give a middle name that you can fall back on if that doesn't work out.
I don't think she would be made fun of.
