I had to have my cat euthanized a few years ago and I teared up every time I drove past the vet office. That lasted for about 6 months....

It doesnt hurt them..Its quick ...I've had 3 dogs put down and I still hurt Print this out and put it in a double picture frame beside "Molly's" photo. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

My Mom and I had our cat euthanized that we'd had for about 10 years. That was almost a year ago, and when I think about her I still sometimes feel like crying. I'm very sorry about your pet :(

One of the worst things i had to go through was taking my dog to be euthanized a couple years back. she was a 16 year old rottweiler that i had since i was 7. her body had just quit on her and she couldnt even get up to go to the bathroom anymore. she would just lay in one spot for a few days at a time. i knew she was suffering and so i had to do it. but because she was so big, they actually had to inject her 5 times. everytime they would inject her she would yelp and i would hug her and brace myself for her last breath, but 5 minutes later...noting. so we would have to do it again and it was really heartbreaking. i just wanted her to go already. so yeah, it was sad, but you have to be strong and move on. dont take that sadness into owning another dog and dont expect another dog to fill molly's place. t

Back in 1986 I took my 14 year old Pomeranian to the Vet Office and put him to sleep. I cried all the way back home...but after a while it made me feel good when I realized that he wasn't suffering anymore. He had a heart condition and painful arthritis.

It always hurts. It just gets less obvious as time goes on. The first one I remember was in 1963 when I was 20, and our family dog was 15. The next one I had to do was in 1985 when Hubby's dog went to the vet for the last time. The latest one was last December, with my beloved Shasha, who I had since she was baby. In between dogs, I usually do volunteer work taking in abandoned dogs or cats and finding homes for them.

My condolences. I have had many animals euthanized and the truth is the pain never goes away and you never foget. It just gets easier to come to terms with everyday. i reccommened waiting a little while before you get a new dog. you dont want to end up neglecting the new dogs needs because you r in pain. when u do decide to get a new dog go to the spca u can even make a donation in molly's name. sometimes the best dogs are the ones you adopt. it is as if they know u saved there life.

My dog was poisoned and we had her euthanized so she wouldn't pass on slowly and in pain. It hurt horribly when it was done, but the pain eventually passed. Provided I was young, around 17, when it happened. I was over it in about a year. She had been with me for about 5 years.

We had a 16 yr old cat who lived a good life. But then her liver and kidneys started failing and she was getting in very bad shape...we hated it but had to have her euthanized. I said good bye to her and had to leave the room. I couldn't stand the thought of her being alive one moment and gone the next. She was very missed for several months but knowing what we had done was better for her than watching her die a horrible inch by inch death. We had our shih-tzu pup that helped us through to love him too...But Muffin will be missed always and never forgotten.

I feel so sorry for you !! I had to have my beloved little girl, "Princess" put down several years ago .... she was a 19 year old Shepard who had been with me since she was three months old. She even saved me from a mugger one evening as I was entering my home .... I'm even tearing up now just thinking about what I had to do with her and this was back in 1996 or so ...

i'm sorry about molly, i'm sure you will miss her. let yourself grieve for her as long as you need to and don't feel bad about your sadness. she was a big part of your life we've had pets put down and it is always difficult. give yourself time.

I'm so sorry, hon. We euthanised our beloved pit/rottie mix Bub six months ago. It was heartbreaking. I was just telling someone else that we often forget that he's not here with us. Just yesterday my husband reminded me to sweep up a pile of dust before Bub walked through it (he was a meddler in the housework!). He fell extremely ill, lost all of his muscle mass in three days. It was very sudden. We weren't ready to let him go, but he was in so much pain... Bub was the first pet I've lost since I've been old enough to understand it. The pain doesn't go away, but it does get easier to deal with. I do still step over his spot at the end of the bed, though. ^_^

Oscar was 15 and my right hand dog when I got home - he could not wait for me to be home and I always looked forward to him. Our pets are special. Sorry you had to do that - it does hurt - but then they are in a better place.

My lap dog, the Mighty Thor - a 168 lb. Great Dane eight years, and five months ago. I doubt if the hurt will stop before I die.

I had to put my dog down about 15 years ago. I will let you know when it quits hurting. I still miss her so. I still cry when I see her grave. But, life goes on, she would have wanted it that way. My current dog is a good guy and a wonderful friend. He doesn't replace Baby, but he does fill in for her. Funny, the more love you give, the more you seem to have.
